The Icicle Works

The Icicle Works is a renowned English alternative rock band that emerged from the United Kingdom’s vibrant post-punk scene in 1980. Taking their name from the Frederik Pohl short story “The Day the Icicle Works Closed,” the group made an indelible mark with the UK Top 20 hit “Love Is a Wonderful Colour” and garnered international attention when “Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)” became a Top 40 single in North America. Over the decades, they have built a distinctive catalogue, evidenced by well-received releases such as the compilation album 5 Albums and the archival series Lost Icicles Volumes 1 & 2.

In December 2025, they brought their acclaimed alternative rock sound to London’s O2 Academy Islington.
