Ginger Root

Ginger Root is the creative project of Cameron Lew, hailing from Huntington Beach, US. Renowned for seamlessly blending city pop and funk, as well as an understated indie soul sensibility, Ginger Root has carved a distinctive niche with a sound that Lew aptly describes as "Aggressive Elevator Soul." Drawing on influences ranging from the classic grooves of Stax and Philly Soul to the shimmering aesthetics of Japanese city pop, Ginger Root’s music captures the imagination of discerning listeners searching for a fresh take on the evolving bedroom pop scene.

With a remarkable discography that includes the acclaimed EPs City Slicker and Nisemono, along with standout singles such as “Le château” and “Why Try,” Ginger Root demonstrates a keen sense of melody and groove. The highly anticipated album SHINBANGUMI arrives in September 2024, promising to further expand the project’s profile. Live performances, celebrated for their infectious energy and musicianship, have contributed to Ginger Root's growing reputation within both indie and niche funk circuits.

In August 2026, London audiences at Crystal Palace Bowl will have the opportunity to experience Ginger Root live, supporting legendary headliner Masayoshi Takanaka in a lineup also featuring Junko Yagami and Himiko Kikuchi.
