St Nicolas Church in Newbury, Berkshire, is a Grade I listed building distinguished by its Perpendicular Gothic architectural style and notably large size for a parish church. Founded in 1086 and dedicated to Saint Nicolas, Bishop of Myra, the present structure was constructed between 1509 and 1533 with the support of John Smallwood, a prominent woollen cloth merchant. During the English Civil War, it was used by Parliamentary troops as a stable, prison, and hospital, resulting in significant damage. Today, St Nicolas Church remains active, offering regular services and community activities.
