Royal & Derngate

Royal & Derngate, Guildhall Rd, Northampton NN1 1DP, UK

Royal & Derngate is a theatre complex in Northampton, England, comprising the Royal Theatre, Derngate Theatre, and the Northampton Filmhouse. The Royal Theatre, a Grade II listed building designed by C J Phipps, opened in 1884. The Derngate Theatre, designed by RHWL and opened in 1983, accommodates a variety of events such as theatre, opera, live music, dance, and sports. After an 18-month redevelopment, the two theatres merged into a single complex in 2006. The Northampton Filmhouse, an independent cinema, opened adjacent to the complex in 2013.
