The Plough Arts Centre is situated in a former Territorial Army drill hall on Fore Street in the centre of Great Torrington. Founded in 1975, it opened with a performance by Dame Edith Evans. In 1991, it avoided closure after merging with nearby Beaford Arts due to financial difficulties. The venue presents a varied programme of arts events, including film screenings, live performances, exhibitions, workshops, and educational outreach. In April 2023, it became a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England for the first time.
