The Mayflower Theatre is located on Commercial Road in Southampton. It first opened as The Empire Theatre in December 1928. In 1950, it was renamed The Gaumont after being purchased by The Rank Organisation. The venue was acquired by Southampton City Council in 1986 to prevent its conversion into a bingo hall, and subsequently reopened as the Mayflower Theatre in February 1987. It is the largest theatre on the South Coast, featuring a 2,270-seat auditorium.
