Kirkstall Abbey is a well-preserved Cistercian monastery founded in 1152, situated around 3 miles northwest of Leeds city centre. Set in a public park on the north bank of the River Aire, the abbey is recognised as a Grade I listed building. It was acquired by the Leeds Corporation as a gift from Colonel North and subsequently opened to the public in the late 19th century.
