Housed in a Grade II listed sandstone building overlooking the River Tyne within the Mill Dam Conservation Area of South Shields, the Customs House features a main theatre, studio space doubling as a cinema, gallery areas, and facilities for private dining and events. Originally built in the 1860s and restored for arts use in 1994, it is managed by a charitable trust.
