Chepstow Castle

Bridge St, Chepstow NP16 5EY, UK

About

Chepstow Castle is a well-preserved medieval fortress perched on a limestone cliff above the River Wye, noted as the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. Construction began in 1067 under Norman lord William FitzOsbern, and the site now features a series of historic stone walls and towers within its grounds. Managed by Cadw, it is open to the public and offers an impressive example of early stone castle architecture in Wales.
