Cardiff Castle is a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion situated in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales. The original motte and bailey structure was constructed in the late 11th century by Norman invaders atop a 3rd-century Roman fort. In 1947, the 5th Marquess of Bute gifted the castle and its surrounding park to the city of Cardiff.
