The Troops of Doom

Brazilian old school death metal

The Troops of Doom are a Brazilian death metal force, founded in 2020 by legendary guitarist Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz, well-known for his influential role in Sepultura’s foundational years. Alongside bassist and vocalist Alex Kafer, drummer Alexandre Oliveira, and guitarist Marcelo Vasco—himself a lauded graphic artist for major metal acts—the band seek to recapture the raw energy and sonic aggression of 1980s death and thrash metal. Drawing inspiration from early Sepultura, as well as trailblazers such as Slayer, Celtic Frost, Kreator, and Possessed, The Troops of Doom channel a vintage, yet vital, heaviness that resonates with classic metal enthusiasts and new fans alike.

Their recent discography showcases a rapid succession of acclaimed releases, including the EPs "The Rise of Heresy" (2020) and "The Absence of Light" (2021), leading into the praised debut album "Antichrist Reborn" (2022). In May 2024, they unveiled their latest studio album, "A Mass to the Grotesque," produced by André Moraes and boasting cover art by Dan Seagrave. This record continues their mission to revive old-school death metal with powerful tracks like "1666," "Altar of Delusion," and "Blood upon the Throne," further cementing their status in the international metal community.

Live music aficionados had the chance to experience The Troops of Doom as headliners at Exchange in Bristol, United Kingdom, in October 2025, with support from Devils Henchmen and Ogun.
