Malin Lewis

Malin Lewis stands at the vanguard of Scottish folk innovation, captivating audiences with pioneering work as a bagpiper, fiddler, instrument maker, and composer. Based in Scotland, Malin’s artistry draws deeply from West Coast musical traditions and is amplified by their unique handmade bagpipes, including a groundbreaking wooden two-octave smallpipe co-developed with Donald Lindsay. This creative approach has established Malin as a significant force in contemporary Celtic music, celebrated for hair-tingling, philosophical, and dance-inducing melodies that reflect themes of queerness, individuality, and human connection.

May 2024 marked the release of Malin Lewis’s highly anticipated debut album, Halocline, on Hudson Records. The record, which finds inspiration in the fluid boundary between saltwater and freshwater, garnered critical acclaim and was shortlisted for both Album of the Year and Live Act of the Year at the Trad Awards, while also featuring in best album lists from The Skinny and Magnet Magazine. Tracks like “A Clearing,” “Trans,” and “You Are Not Alone” highlight Malin’s ability to push the boundaries of traditional folk. Previous releases, including the 2023 EP Not For Everyone, further showcase their innovative musical vision.

Live music enthusiasts have recently enjoyed Malin’s headlining show at The Greenbank in Bristol in September 2025. In March 2026, Malin Lewis is set to headline at The Tin Music and Arts in Coventry, sharing the stage with Jude Rees.
