Púca Festival
Kíla add Irish folk to the Glen Hansard led Púca Festival line-up in Trim / Athboy.
Irish folk music/world music group
Kíla have established themselves as one of Ireland’s most innovative folk ensembles, renowned for their adventurous approach to contemporary Irish world music. Emerging from Dublin’s vibrant scene in the late 1980s, the eight-piece band intertwine traditional Irish instruments and Gaeilge lyrics with an eclectic palette of global influences, drawing inspiration from traditions as diverse as classical, rock, and world music. This fusion results in dynamic performances and recordings that push the boundaries of the folk genre, delivering everything from spirited jigs to evocative, freewheeling instrumentals.
The group’s unique sound and creative energy have seen them collaborate with acclaimed artists and composers, particularly in the realm of film. Kíla worked alongside Bruno Coulais on the soundtracks for the Oscar-nominated animated features “The Secret of Kells”, “Song of the Sea”, and “WolfWalkers”, earning critical recognition for their innovative scores. Their discography showcases this inventiveness, with standout albums including “Alive Beo”, “Suas Síos”, and the IFTA award-winning work for “Arracht.” Their most recent album, “Raise The Road”, was released in May 2025, further cementing their place at the forefront of contemporary folk music.
Live, Kíla remain a captivating force and are set to bring their compelling stagecraft as a support act for Glen Hansard at the Púca Festival in Trim/Athboy, Ireland, in October 2026.
